ADHD is the number-one disorder among children. Drug prescription for ADHD has also reached epidemic proportions. Drug prescription for ADHD has increased exponentially. Prescriptions of Ritalin for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, prompting fears it is being pushed on children at the expense of alternative treatments and without appreciation of long-term effects.
The pharmaceutical industry plays a negative role in this. The diagnosis ADHD is in the industry's interest, in terms of driving up sales of medicines such as Ritalin, Concerta, Medikinet and Equasym. 'An information flow is therefore created in which ADHD is categorized as a neurobiological brain disorder', says Batstra, researcher and lecturer at the University of Groningen, who believes that the industry plainly promotes the disorder. 'It goes much too far. The industry has tentacles everywhere. Pharmacists sponsor parents' groups, produce websites about ADHD and 'lionize' doctors who prescribe the medicines. The companies spend twice as much on marketing a product than they do on developing it.

But are these drugs really helping children? Should we really keep expanding the number of prescriptions filled? In 30 years there has been a twentyfold increase in the consumption of drugs for attention-deficit disorder.
Attention-deficit drugs increase concentration in the short term, which is why they work so well for college students cramming for exams. But when given to children over long periods of time, they neither improve school achievement nor reduce behavior problems. The drugs can also have serious side effects, including stunting growth.
Sadly, few physicians and parents seem to be aware of what we have been learning about the lack of effectiveness of these drugs. What gets publicized are short-term results and studies on brain differences among children. Indeed, there are a number of incontrovertible facts that seem at first glance to support medication. It is because of this partial foundation in reality that the problem with the current approach to treating children has been so difficult to see.Read the full article by L. The Hague - Health Institutions should do more to prevent a high workload and agression from which employees are suffering.
Half of the absence from work has to do with stress, because of pressure and agression towards staff. According to a respresentative of Worksinspection Netherlands, the absence of work in this sector is about 25% higher than the mean of 4,2%
In 2012 and 2013, dealing with work pressure will be one of the key points to deal with for the ministry of Social Business and Work Opportunity (SZW). There are 1,2 million people working in the sector of health and well-being.
According the the Workinspection: "It is important that employees have a healthy way of working until their retirement. In a sector where there is a short in staf, because of the increasing amount of elderly, this is even more important"
The inspection SZW points out that employers are obligated to take action when their staff gets ill or unfit for work. "If they don't, we will have take action", according the inspection.
Abvakabo FNV is happy with the controls taking place. According to the largest union in the healtcare, 6 in 10 employees in health care are concerned about the high workload and if they can keep it up during their career. The union calls its "essential" that due to the theathening shortness in employees in health care, that people can work in a healthy way until they retire.

Amsterdam - the number of cases with burn-out in 2011 has risen by 11%. On average an employee with burn-out has been absent from work 189 days.
This can be concluded from a research from Arbo-Organisation 365. The total number of employees that were absent actually dropped by eight percent.
The percentage of employees with burn-out complaint could even go up to 14%. So although in time of crisis the total absence has dropped, burn-out has not.
Women
The rise has mostly taken place among men between 26 to 35 and women from 46 years and up. More women than men are struck by burn-out.
"If both the employee as well as the employer aim at prevention and durable solutions instead of treating symptons, both parties would benefit" according to 365-physican Rob Hoedeman.

World-wide over 250 universities, clinics and research centers are using our NeXus physiological data acquisition and feedback systems for research, engineering and education in the fields of psychophysiology, neuroscience and health.
They appreciate the level of precision (24 bit), flexibility and configurability that our NeXus systems and BioTrace+ software offer.
NeXus is an ideal research instrument for those who wants to measure the human response or physiological activity in the human autonomic and central nervous system. It offers 4 to 32 input channels which can be synchronized with external events, video and stimuli through our NTI (nexus trigger interface).

Applications in Research
- -Slow cortical potentials (SCP) and Epilepsy
- -Event Related Potentials (ERP/P300)
- -Real-time topographic Neuromapping (brainmaps) and QEEG
- -Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD/ADHD)
- -Stress related health problems
- -Heart rate variability (HRV)
- -Hyperventilation and overbreathing
