The Hague - Health Institutions should do more to prevent a high workload and agression from which employees are suffering.
Half of the absence from work has to do with stress, because of pressure and agression towards staff. According to a respresentative of Worksinspection Netherlands, the absence of work in this sector is about 25% higher than the mean of 4,2%
In 2012 and 2013, dealing with work pressure will be one of the key points to deal with for the ministry of Social Business and Work Opportunity (SZW). There are 1,2 million people working in the sector of health and well-being.
According the the Workinspection: "It is important that employees have a healthy way of working until their retirement. In a sector where there is a short in staf, because of the increasing amount of elderly, this is even more important"
The inspection SZW points out that employers are obligated to take action when their staff gets ill or unfit for work. "If they don't, we will have take action", according the inspection.
Abvakabo FNV is happy with the controls taking place. According to the largest union in the healtcare, 6 in 10 employees in health care are concerned about the high workload and if they can keep it up during their career. The union calls its "essential" that due to the theathening shortness in employees in health care, that people can work in a healthy way until they retire.
