The Dutch government is very concerned about the increasing prescriptions of medication in child care. Five years ago, 1 of 60 children with ADHD get medication. In 2010 this has increased to 1 of 26 children. That is 4 percent of the children, both in age from 6 to 10 years and from 10 to 16 years.
The Dutch government is concerned about the effects of the drugs in long term for developing brains of young children. The government also want to take a look at the impact of medication like Ritalin, in other countries. Prescription in these countries also have inreased over the last couple of years.
