Hemoencephalography (HEG) is a technique to measure the (relative) blood flow inside the brain. It appears that blood flow is poor in certain brain areas of persons suffering from several types of "brain problems" (e.g. ADD/ADHD, autism). Some researchers have found that the blood flow in the brain can be improved with biofeedback training in much the same way as EEG biofeedback. Combining HEG biofeedback with EEG biofeedback may shorten the number of sessions dramatically, and also may improve the success rate.

The HEG NeXus sensor is manufactured by Biomcompresearch (www.biocompresearch.org) . It has two sensors that are used to measure the quality of circulating blood: one projects the infrared light inward while the other catches the returning rays. Thus, it is possible to determine the blood in that particular section of the brain is oxygen-rich, oxygen-depleted or hypoperfused.

The sensors are mounted on a band that wraps around the head and fastens with Velcro. No special paste or preparation is needed.The NeXus HEG Sensor takes up two auxiliary inputs (AUX) of your NeXus system. It comes with a CD containing specific HEG screens for the BioTrace+ Software.
